About Ixtapa - Zihuatanejo

Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo offers two destinations by the price of one, Zihuatanejo, where stillness, harmony, and typical characteristics of a fisherman village with history and culture, contrast and at the same time complement Ixtapa, the impressive tourist development with excellent Hotels, Golf Courses, Restaurants, Night Life and Activities, setting together a perfect balance for you in a highest level.

Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo counts with a very important historic wealth due that way back in time the Olmecas once lived all over these coasts, leaving vestiges of its transcendental culture which can be noticed in the Archeological Museum, and where you can get to learn a great deal of the region history as well, some other places that you “must” visit are: “Estuario Grande” where exotic and a very particular local fauna with colorful species can be found on your way; “Petatlan”, a colonial town located south from Zihuatanejo over the coast highway, best known for its open-air “Gold Market” located right across the majestic church. The delicious gastronomy of this place is also quite remarkable.

The location of these two harbors allow to have such an amazing and calmed water and warm beaches, but at the same time there are other ones best known for their big waves without a doubt specially for their Surfing and Bodysurfing; its rich coasts offer a diversity of many other Water Activities choices such as Sport Fishing, Diving, Ski, Windsurf, Snorkel and Sailing among others.

Zihuatanejo (“Place Of Women” in Nahuatl) was the first one to appear from both, and still have that charm of that little fishermen town with peaceful paving stone streets, typical aspects of the culture and Mexican past that gives the town a unique identity; in the other hand, Ixtapa (“Place Of White Sand” in Nahuatl) has consolidated itself from the ecologically careful growth of its tourist services, offering the visitors everything that is required for an avant-garde tourist infrastructure with a status and options that go from the smallest and modest hotels to the grand tourism ones.

Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo are two towns located about 240 kilometers northwest from Acapulco in the coast of Guerrero, only 7 kilometers apart from one another and sharing the same airport, these two are characteristic destinies of the Mexican Pacific, surrounded by lovely and calmed beaches that contrast with the exuberant tropical rainforest that descends among the mountains all the way down to the golden sand of these quaint bays.
